What Do The Historic Markers Look Like?

Bronze Markers

A series of bronze plaques were affixed to important locations around the State of Colorado in the 1930s through the 1970s.

Wooden Signs

These large wooden signs are similar to the Colorful Colorado signs located at our borders. They have carved and painted words written on them. These signs were added throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s along with the bronze plaques.

Steele Signs

These steele signs were mostly installed in Colorado in the 1970s. This material was not used as much as the others.

Fiberglass Panel Signs

Panel signs can be single signs attached to a metal frame or they can be double-sided panels mounted to a more ornate frame. The larger frames often have a stucco finish or a rock finish. They often have a metal mountainscape across the top with Colorado engraved into it.

The fiberglass panel signs were installed in Colorado in the 1990s.

Lumasite Panel Signs

Panel signs can be single signs attached to a metal frame or they can be double-sided panels mounted to a more ornate frame. The larger frames often have a stucco finish or a rock finish. They often have a metal mountainscape across the top with Colorado engraved into it.

The lumasite panel signs were installed in Colorado in the 1990s and the 2000s.

Get Involved

I need your help to put together a complete inventory of these historic signs. They are spread out across Colorado, but they are local to lots of people. I am hoping with the power of social media and the internet that we can complete a full photo inventory quickly.

Thank you so much!!
